Shirley Elsa Thompson passed away July 22, 2020 at her Mesquite, Texas residence. She was born on August 27, 1924 to Christina Braithwaite Thompson and George Thompson in Georgetown, British Guiana, South America. She was wonderful 95 years of age.
Elsie, as she was affectionately known, was the second to last of 11 siblings and is the last to join them. After graduating from Lunke High School, Elsie pursued a career in nursing and became an RN. She furthered her clinical nursing studies at the University of the West Indies. She worked as a surgical nurse, public health visitor and a midwife. Elise married Isaac Phoswell Newton in 1953 and they were joined for 44 years until he was called home in 1997.
Elsie is survived by her three children, Christina Wells, Julia Newton and Nicholas Newton; her son-in-law Henry Wells, daughter-in-law Audrey Newton; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several relatives and close friends.
We will greatly miss our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend as she goes on to be with her Father in Heaven.
Arrangements for Elsie are under the care of Laurel Oaks Funeral Home located at 12649 Lake June Rd., Mesquite, Texas 75180. No services have been scheduled at this time.
