Virginia Fern Barbee, daughter of the late Kelly Webb and Bertha Mae (Turner) Hickman, was born January 15, 1926 in Trenton, Missouri. During her school age years, Virginia attended the Mt. Moriah, Missouri school. As a young girl, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized.
On April 10, 1944, Virginia was united in marriage to Leon Clark Barbee in Des Moines, Iowa. They shared over 44 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children: Edward, Forrest, Gene, Sherry and Tanya Renee.
Virginia was a hard working woman. She worked for many years at the Firestone Tire and Rubber plant in Des Moines, Iowa and was a member of the Union Local 310.
During her spare time, Virginia enjoyed reading, card games, casinos and most importantly, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Virginia passed away Sunday evening, June 3, 2007 at the Sunset Village of the Ozarks of St. Robert, Missouri at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 19 days.
Virginia will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by four children: Forrest Barbee of Las Vegas, NV, Gene Barbee of Rogers, AR, Sherry Hopkins of St. Robert, MO and Tanya Renee Reynolds of Madrid, IA; one sister: Rosalie Spears of the state of Illinois; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Leon (May 31, 1988); son: Edward Clark Barbee; and five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 6, 2007 in the Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert with Pastor Thomas Solomon officiating. The songs "In The Garden" and "I Hope You Dance" were played. Soloist Angela Solomon sang "Amazing Grace". Serving as escorts were Gene Barbee, Troy Barbee, Dave Reynolds and Heath Reynolds.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 7, 2007 in the Highland Memory Garden of Des Moines, Iowa with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.
