Discrepancy re date of birth: His grave stone (see below, says he died in 1831, in the 81st year of his age, which would suggest that he was 80 when he died, therefore presumably born 1850-1851. But Hanson (see below) lists a date of birth of March 15, 1756. Because the original intent of Find A Grave was to simulate a walk through a cemetery, reflecting what is written on the tombstones, 1850 is used as the date of birth on this memorial.

On his grave stone in Oswego Bitter(s) Cemetery:

"In memory of Isaac Clute who was a true patriot in the Revolution. Fought under Gates at Saratoga, & died June 27th 1831 in the 81st year of his age."

Although his grave stone states his death year as 1831, other records list his death year as 1833. There are many questions as to his birth date and death date. (See caption for pension record document in image at right.)

Isaac was a son of Frederick/Fredericus Clute (born 1727 in Schenectady) and Elizabeth/Eva Isaacse DeGraef Clute (born 1725/26).

Isaac's wife was Helen/Helena/Lena Barhydt Clute (burial place unknown).

Hanson, Willis T., Jr., A History of Schenectady During the Revolution, privately printed, 1916, pp. 147-148, among the "Individual Records of Service," lists the following:

"CLUTE, ISAAC: Born March 15, 1756. During the fall of 1777, he served near Fort Stanwix in a company of batteaumen under Captain Jacobus Peek. In 1778, as a private under Captain John Mynderse, 2d Albany County Militia, he performed garrison duty at Stone Arabia and also served as a batteauman at various places along the Hudson River under Captain Jacobus Peek. In 1779 he served at Saratoga in a company of artificers under the immediate command of Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher Yates, and in 1780 he marched to Ballston when it was attacked. His name appears on the rolls of the 2d Albany County Militia, Land Bounty Rights."
