Early Settler Dies At Home In Ruskin

With the death of Robert Brainard at his home in Ruskin, Friday, went one of the early pioneers of the county. He came to this community in the spring of 1885 and has resided in Nuckolls county since that time. His illness extended about two weeks.
His boyhood days were spent in Illinois, where he cummed with a family of boys named Shubert who later moved to eastern Nebraska and settled the town of Shubert. Only a few days before his illness Uncle Bob was in the News office telling us about his boyhood days and of his early days in Nebraska. He planned to make a trip to the eastern part of the state this summer. Fate has interfered, however, and he made a far better trip to a land he has been preparing to go to for many long years.
Robert Ambros Brainard, son of Sylvester and Ellen Daugherty Brainard, was born August 23, 1842, at Beardstown, Cass County, Illinois, and passed away at his home in Ruskin, Nebraska, on July 15, 1927, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 22 days. "Uncle Bob," as he was familiarly called, came to this community in the spring of 1885, and with the exception of five years spent in Bostwick, and four years at Cadams, he has resided in this community for forty-two years.
He was married to Mary Lavina Edwards August 29, 1866. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. The three sons passed away in infancy. The two daughters Miss Hattie Brainard and Mrs. Lulu Skinner, both reside here. Their mother departed this life in November, 1893.
In August, 1896, Mr. Brainard married Mrs. Jane Selleck who passed away May 10, 1909.
Those left to mourn his departure are his two daughters, Miss Hattie Brainard and Mrs. John Skinner and family, two brothers, nephews, nieces, and a host of friends. - Ruskin News.
