Retired SMSGT William James (Bill) Parrott, 65, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2005. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverends David Black and Bill Alexander officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Remembrance.

The family will be at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South from 6 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday for visitation.

Bill was born in Caretta, West Virginia on May 22, 1940 the son of William Frank and Katherine Avonell Parrott. He grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Iaeger High School in 1958 the same year he joined the United States Air Force. During his 21 ½ year Air Force career, he was awarded two Commendation Medals, the Meritorious Award, the National Defense Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, the Distinguished Airman Award as well as numerous other prestigious awards. He was also an honor graduate of the NCO Academy.

Bill met his wife Bonnie Fern Brushwood in Montgomery, Alabama and they were married on September 29, 1959. They came to Abilene in 1971 where Bill worked at Gooch Packing Company as a government inspector for the Air Force. After retiring in 1979, Bill worked for FT. Worth Pipe Co. until the oil crunch and then worked for Pro Bowl Bowling Lanes, which later became Whitewood Lanes. Bill was an avid bowler and an active member of the Abilene Bowling Association where he served as a Director and was named Director of the Year, 1st Vice President, and President, receiving the Presidents Award twice for outstanding contributions. He was inducted into the Abilene Bowling Associations Hall of Fame in 2003. Bill and Bonnie also enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling together. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he attended the Upper Room Sunday School class.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Bonnie of Abilene; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Davis and husband Weston of Lawn; a son, Michael Kevin Parrott of San Angelo; a sister, Carol Jean Parrott of Abilene; two grandchildren, Aaron Parrott who attends McMurry University, and Rachel Marie Skinner attending Texas Christian University.

His parents preceded him in death.

Pallbearers for the service will be Robert Rollins, Bill Barth, Gary Morris, Joe Wilson, Jim Barefoot and Tony Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial to the First United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1318 South 2nd St, Abilene, TX 79602.
