Harold M. Woods, 82, died Friday, March 10, 2006, at an Abilene medical center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Reid and Rev. Stan Allcorn officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Born in Orienta, Oklahoma, on November 30, 1923, Harold was the son of Maggie Myrtle (Scarbrough) and Dana McCoy Woods. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps as a top turret gunnery engineer in a B-17. He flew 36 missions over Germany and was discharged after 2 ½ years as a Tech Sergeant. He earned three Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal and a Distinguished Flying Cross.

On February 9, 1947, he married Betty Louella Osborne in Altus, Oklahoma.

Harold graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a BS in pharmacy. He was owner/operator of Woods Pharmacy in Rule, Texas, for 27 years. He was a member of Rotary International, Optimist Club working with the soap box derby in Lawton, Okla., and the Rule Chamber of Commerce.

Harold was an active member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. He loved playing dart baseball, bridge and dominos with the Primetimers.

Harold will be remembered by his family and friends for his more than generous spirit with his friends and customers. He never had a cross word to say about anyone. He spent his life taking care of others and was in church at every opportunity. He loved music and was always in choir and in a quartet in Rule.

His parents, two brothers, Tom Woods and Roy Woods, and a sister, Maud Odell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Woods of Abilene; daughters, Dana Beth Shomo and husband, Chuck, of Crowley, TX, and Bonnie Jean Burroughs and husband, David, of Abilene; a sister, Mary Shelton of West Covina, CA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
