Barbara Lou (Shimer) Butcher was born December 23, 1932 in Munday, West Virginia to Lemuel "Harley" and Lovisa (Fox) Shimer. At age 8t, she passed away on Friday, July 10, 2020, at the Inn at Summit Trail assisted living facility in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Barbara received a bachelors degree from Glenville State College. After graduation from college, she and her husband, Harold, moved to Ohio. The majority of their years were spent in Sandusky, Ohio. Barbara taught elementary education for over 30 years, most recently in the Berlin-Milan School District. She also received a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.

After retiring as a school teacher, she served on the North Point ESC and EHOVE Career Center Board of Education for 20 years. Faith was important to Barbara and she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Sandusky for nearly 50 years.

Barbara loved her family, was a true family matriarch and mother to three sons, David, Greg and Jeff. She was devoted to her family and showed great interest in the activities of her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harold, in 2018; son Jeff in 1999; parents, Lemuel and Lovisa Shimer; brothers, Herb Shimer, Ron Shimer, Don Shimer; sisters, Mavadelle Lieving and Madeline Prather.

Barbara is survived by sons, Dave (Linda) of New Albany, Ohio, Greg (Kathleen) of Carroll, Ohio; and daughter-in-law, Joey Butcher of Monroeville, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Brian (Whitney) Butcher, Jeff Butcher, Stacey (Michael) Straubel, Kaitlin (Pete) Cortese, Adam Butcher, Emily Butcher, Colton Butcher, Karli Butcher, Nick Butcher and Kassidy Butcher; three great grandchildren, Nolan, Brooks and Lachlan.
