Katherine A. Stephens, 90 of Effingham, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Willowbrook Memory Care in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Katherine’s family requests that everyone please wear a mask during services. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Kay was born in Monte Vista, CO on December 3, 1929 to Max & Jennie (Ortega) Trujillo. She grew up in Denver, CO where she met Robert (Bob) Stephens. They were married on June 27, 1951 and moved to Effingham, IL where together they raised 6 children. Bob preceded her in death on December 25, 2006.

Her home was a revolving door of family and friends where nobody ever left hungry. She worked at Fedders for 20+ years where she made many friendships that she carried to the end.

Katherine is survived by her sons, Gregory (Sue) of Teutopolis and Chris of Effingham; daughters, Patty (Greg) Yonke of Ft. Wayne, IN, Deb (Paul) Willenborg of Effingham, Pam (Darryl) Milano of Hope Mills, NC and Cathy (fiance, Jerry) Wharton of Altamont; sisters, Geraldine (Eddie) Knox of Melbourne, FL and Lillian Trees of Lake Park, CA; grandchildren; Jonathan, Michael, Jill, Justin, Jeff, Jordan, Kelly, Trisha, Tony, Angie, Andy, Alex, Suzanne, Mary, Ashley and Alison; 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one due in September.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin grandchildren, Robin & Jennifer Milano; grandson-in-law, Jeremy Hubbard; brother, Arnold Trujillo.

The family would like to thank the staff at Willowbrook-2 for the wonderful care given to our mother during her time there.
