Margrett Ann was born on February 26, 1941 in Walker, LA to Eveline Harris Carter and Earl Moses Carter. The Carter family resided in Norco, LA where Margrett was educated in St. Charles Parish Schools. She graduated from Mary McLeod Bethune High School in 1959.
Four years later on August 24, 1963, Margrett Ann untied in holy matrimony to Earl Joseph Terry formerly of New Orleans. The couple decided to make their home in St. Rose, LA where they spent the next fifty-eight years of marriage. They were blessed with two sons: Carl Joseph Terry and Derrick Earl Terry.
Margrett Ann was a faithful and lifelong member of Greater Good Hope Baptist Church in her hometown of Norco, LA. She served as a leader, servant, and a witness to the gospel in many capacities of the church. Margrett Ann led the Woman’s Auxiliary Board as Chairman for thirteen years. She was a member of the choir, and in later life she was honored with the title of stewardess. Margrett Ann was always willing to lend a helping hand for church anniversary events, the annual black history service, and the GGHBC Family and Friends Day. She was a true “servant worker” for her Christian community.
Margrett Ann loved to socialize. She never met a stranger and could enjoy herself at any event. She regularly received invitations for weddings, dance recitals, family dinners, club events, church functions, concerts, and graduation parties. She was always there for everyone.
In addition, Margrett Ann was a loyal and committed member of The Total Woman Club of St. Rose for over thirty years. The club membership included many of her life-long friends who also became her travel companions. Margrett Ann liked to travel, and the club visited several states and countries via train, air, and boat.
Margrett Ann leaves her loving family to cherish her memory: her husband Earl Joseph Terry, son Carl Joseph Terry (Toneka-deceased), son Derrick Earl Terry (Sherri), granddaughter Ambrea Perilloux (Steven), grandson Austin Carl Terry, and granddaughter Asasha Lynn Terry. She will never be forgotten by her sisters: Irma (John), Ivory (Sherman), Mary Ellen, Edna (Darryl), Ruby Nell, Helen, Ella Dee, and Ethel (Manor Ross-deceased). She also leaves behind two brothers: Don Carter and Eddie Carter (Connie). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends will always treasure time spent with her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Eveline Carter, her sister Patsy Carter Lawson, and her daughter-in-law Toneka Walker Terry.
