Frances M. Buck Frances M. Buck, 87, of Rural Retreat, Va.., widow of the late Rev. Sheridan T. Buck, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in Wythe County Community Hospital. She was a native of Jamestown, N.Y. and was born August 10, 1919, daughter of Ray and Edith Taylor Eckholm. She was preceded in death by a son, Duane Sheridan Buck; a sister, Lois Stohl and a grandson, Marshall Ray Waldron. Frances was a graduate of Celoron High School, class of 1940. She was active in the United Methodist Church as a Sunday School Teacher and throughout her marriage as a pastor’s wife. After her husband’s retirement until his death, she worked at Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville, Va. Since her retirement, she has preached on occasion at her church, has been Sunday School Superintendent, Secretary of the Administrative Council, recording secretary of the charge conference for several years. She was president of the Wytheville District Retired Ministers and Spouses Group. She received an honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity from the Church of Salvation in California. She was ambassador to the Holston Home for Children in Greenville, TN. Mrs. Buck was active in the Rural Retreat Senior Citizens Group and the R.S.V.P. Program of District Three Government Cooperative and served on its advisory council. While in the active ministry, she held offices of various capacities of the church and U.M.W. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Allene and Alton Waldron of Waterford, PA., Judith and Robert Stuckey of Loogootee, Ind..; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Ray Eckholm and wife Mariana of Celoron, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2007 at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian C. Burch officiating. Interment will follow beside her husband at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Cedar Springs Community of Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at the residence at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorial to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, VA. is in charge of arrangements.
