Stephen Larry Douglas, known to all as “Steve”, 85, of the Douglas Crossroads Community, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, July 21, 2020.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Alva Woolard Douglas and his brother, Paul Douglas.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vernell Boyd Douglas; three sons, Keith Douglas and wife Rosie, Timmy Douglas and wife Cindy and Tommy Douglas and wife Kim; a sister, Anna Biggs; two brothers, Aaron Douglas and Jim Douglas; six grandchildren, Megan Douglas, Austin Douglas, Ashley Douglas, Chase Douglas, Chelsea Blackburn & Tyler Douglas; and eleven great grandchildren.
Steve was born on and spent his entire life living and farming the Douglas Family property at Douglas Crossroads. In his 60 plus years of farming he won many awards, to include Farmer of the Year in 2009 and the Tobacco Leaders program with Phillip Morris in 2010. His knowledge and experience were passed on to his three sons, who he worked on the farm with side by side for many years, carrying on the tradition and family industry. He was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ. Steve will be remembered as a simple, hardworking man who did not like fuss or pretenses, but mostly he will be remembered as a strong family man, a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed.
In accordance with COVID restrictions, the family will have a private chapel service but invite the public to join them on Friday, July 24 at 3 pm at Pamlico Memorial Gardens for a graveside service officiated by Rev. Tony Krantz.  A floating visitation, for the public to view Mr. Douglas, will be held on Thursday, from 1-4 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons, Keith, Timmy, Tommy, Tyler, Austin, and Chase Douglas.
