Deputies responded around 1 p.m. after they received a report of a hiker who fell off the mountain located around 71 miles east of Sweet Home, according to officials from the Linn County Sheriff's office.
A witness said the man, identified as Todd Adelman, 19, was climbing near the summit when rocks gave way causing him to fall.
Adelman was found at the bottom of the cliff — at around 7,300 feet — where he was pronounced deceased. Responders worked through the night to carry Adelman out of the remote area.
Officials said Three Fingered Jack is a popular place for technical mountaineers, though it is known to have poor rock quality and steep cliffs near the summit.
Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriffs’ Office, Corvallis Mountain Rescue, Eugene Mountain Rescue and Deschutes Mountain Rescue assisted Linn County Sheriff's Office during the rescue.
