Danny was a fierce advocate for wildlife conservation efforts and dedicated his life to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium for over four decades. He retired as the Chief Operating Officer in 2017. Danny was instrumental in the growth of the Zoo, not only in his roles, but also through his assistance in the design and construction of major exhibits including the Lied Jungle, Desert Dome and African Grasslands. Danny had a passion for conservation of carnivores, particularly small cats such as the black-footed cat. He was instrumental in the development of Conservation Centers for Species Survival (C2S2) and played a significant role in the sustainability plans for dozens of endangered species.

In 2009 he married the love of his life, Dr. Cheryl, who shared a passion for animals and the natural world. Together they shared a love for animals and opened their little farm to homeless dogs, cats, horses, chickens and goats.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Joseph Morris II and Maryann (Schneiderwind) Morris.

Danny is survived by his wife, Dr. Cheryl Morris of Malvern Iowa; siblings Susan Schunk, Ellen Albrecht (Dana), Jim Morris, Mary Beth Kuhfahl (Paul), Katie Morris, all of Omaha; Tim Morris California, Chris Gabrenas (Victor) Utah, and Monica Ferreira (Paul) Hawaii; in-laws Mark and Debby Warrick; sister-in-law Dee Atchley (Rob), brother-in-law Clifford Warrick (Allyson), all of New Mexico; numerous relatives and friends; and our family at the Omaha Zoo.

A celebration of Danny’s life was held on Thursday, July 23, 2020. During the service friends and loved ones will have the opportunity to share a memento or special memory about their connection with Danny. Visitation was at 12:00 PM and Memorial service was at 1:00 PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home.
