Carmen Acosta, 77, of Whitney, passed away November 10, 2013 at a Fort Worth, Texas hospice care facility. She was born September 12, 1936, daughter of the late Pedro and Rebecca Pulgurin Cadena.

She grew up in the Files Valley community and attended school in District 47. Being the daughter of immigrant parents, Carmen learned to work hard at an early age helping her parents tend to the farm crops. She married Mike Martinez in 1954 and together they raised nine children. Mike preceded her in death in 1970. That same year, she began working at Town Square Furniture in Hillsboro and retired in 1999. While working there she met the next love of her life, Jesus Acosta and they were married on February 23, 1976.

Carmen loved to talk a lot and she cared not only for her children but her friends children as well. She also enjoyed fishing at Lake Whitney and taking fishing trips to the Gulf of Mexico. She is now with a true fisherman.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Felix and Raymond Cadena and three sisters, Connie Santos, Maria Valderas and Augustina Alanzo. Survivors include her husband, Jesus Acosta; nine children, Aurelia Sauceda, Louisa Botello, Carmen Salderina and Raymond, Mike, Bernal, Louis, Phillip and Gabriel Martinez; one brother, Pete Cadena; three sisters, Lupe Valderas, Lucia Chavarria and Rebecca Gutierrez; many grand children and great-grand children.
