Thomas Raleigh Conner went to his Lord and Savior Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 10:55 a.m. at the Crockett County Care Center. He passed from natural causes. He was 92.

He was born on March 23, 1928 to Thomas Carlos and Emmie Vee Lees Conner in Haskell County. He was raised on the farm in Haskell County. He attended school in Rule, Texas until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946.

He married his lifetime sweetheart Martha Jean Holcomb Conner November 12, 1946. As soon as they were married he went to Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He and his new bride resided on the farm until drought and hailed out crops sent him to the oilfields of West Texas in 1965. He moved his family to Grandfalls, Texas for one year. In 1966, the family moved to Ozona, where they would find a lifetime home. Raleigh was a contract pumper until he was 80 retiring in 2008.

Raleigh enjoyed hunting arrowheads, with his family. He fished many bass tournaments with his boys. He loved to work in his garden and yard. Raleigh loved fast cars. In his younger days he ran with Dock Dockery and Mike Clayton. They all three had "fast" pickups. There are numerous stories about them! He enjoyed his coffee drinking buddies Pie Pierce and George Bunger.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ozona, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and 42 Club.

Raleigh was preceded in death by his parents, sister Adelene Glass, daughter-in-law Rhonda Conner and wife, Jean, of 70 years.

He is survived by son, Thomas Raleigh Conner Jr. and wife, Shelley, and Tony Wayne Conner; five grandchildren, Thomas Raleigh Conner III and wife, Laura, Robin Kate Conner Campbell and husband, Jason, Kassie Gale Conner, Krissie Dawn Conner Zorn and husband, Jake and Jaylon Wayne Conner; five great-grandchildren, Dempster Ken Campbell, Elizabeth Kate Campbell, Conner Holcomb Zorn, Karsyn Grey Zorn and Tinley Ryann Conner and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Fuller conducting the service.

Pallbearers are Moose Coates, Cuatro Davidson, Danny Jo Holcomb, Billy Dell Renfroe, Trey Van Shoubrouek and Sooner Williams.

Honorary pallbearers Louis Bunger, Fred Deaton, Pete Carnes, Kenneth Glass, Joey Pierce and Mike Womack.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Schriner's Hospital for crippled children or the Wounded Warrior Project.
