Vera Ann Prince Jones, a longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach, Florida entered Heaven on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the age of 62. She was born on April 20, 1958 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late David A. and Lillie M. Lyons Prince.
Vera graduated from Ft. Walton Beach High School in 1976. She continued her education and graduated from the University of West Florida specializing in Social Work. If you knew Vera you would know that she was born to be a social worker. Vera was a missionary in every possible way. Serving others is what she lived for. She was always attentive to the needs of others. Her passion was helping the elderly and single parent mothers. Vera’s service work started at FWB Community Love Center. She signed families up for the Angel Food Program. It did not matter the need: school supplies, clothes, food and even medicine. If you needed it Vera would find a way to get it.
Vera was a founding member of Sickle Cell Disease Association of Okaloosa, Walton and Washington Counties. Vera was the first certified counselor for Okaloosa County. Vera served as the treasurer for the Sickle Cell Disease Association for many years. Vera did 2 fundraisers for Harley Davidson and helped with a reading program sponsored by Harley Davidson. Vera was one of the founders of The Friends of Chester Pruitt, a non-profit that operated out of the Chester Pruitt Center. Vera used “Friends” to create a back-to-school supplies give-a-way, The Thanksgiving and Christmas food give-a-way. Vera made sure that the senior citizens and single parent mothers received baskets filled with everything needed to cook a holiday meal. Vera also was her own community police officer. One that was respected by ALL. Even the bad boys in the streets listened, loved and respected Miss Vera as they called her.
If she thought you were out of control, she would sit you down and tell you of the errors of your ways. Vera would help people complete their paperwork or file for their social security or even do their taxes. Anyone in need knew if they could find Miss Vera, she would have the answer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother (Larkie W. Lyons) and nephew (David L. Prince-Tee). She leaves to cherished memories to her husband Michael Ray Jones; son, Timothy L. Prince; daughters Tiffany M. Prince and Tonya D. Prince (Nick) all of Fort Walton Beach, FL. Step-children; son, Michael Jones (Alena) Tampa, FL; son Ladare Lovett, Pensacola, FL; daughter Crystal Lovett of Fort Walton Beach, FL; son, Marcus Lovett of Shalimar, FL; one brother Timothy “Steve” Prince (Stephanie) of Fort Walton Beach, FL; two sisters, Tina Brown (Darrell) of Stockton, California; Sharon Kidd (Mark) of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Keundra Prince, Kevon Prince Robinson, Taina Prince, Michelle Prince, Nick Watson, Jr., Sha’Niyah Coachman, Taneia Lovett, Joshua Fain, Jr., T’mia Prince, Joesiah Fain, Mariah Cooper, great-grandson Kedar Washington, great-granddaughter Shante Haggins and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
