Leona A. Miller, 100, of Montrose, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, IL.

Private family services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 13204 N. 2300th Street, Wheeler, IL 62479. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

A private family visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, Dieterich Community Civic Center, Heartland Senior Living, or HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois.

Leona was born on October 5, 1919, in Dieterich, IL, the daughter of Robert and Louisa (Schormann) Haack. She married Floyd A. Miller on November 14, 1943 and he preceded her in death in August of 2008 after 64 years of marriage.

Leona was a homemaker and helped her husband on their farm. She enjoyed playing cards and any handiwork such as, crocheting, sewing, and quilting. Leona always had a big garden and spent the summer canning and preserving what was grown. She also took pride in mowing her lawn. Alongside her husband, Leona enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wheeler all of her married life and belonged to the Ladies Aid in which she held many positions. She was a member of the Effingham County Home Extension. Above all else, Leona was a kind-hearted woman who had a strong love for her family.

Leona is survived by her sons, Daryl Miller and Dennis (Jane) Miller both of Montrose; daughter, Brenda (Paul) Carpenter of Scottsdale, AZ; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Miller of Montrose; sisters-in-law, Rhea Hartman of Shumway and Helen Miller of Effingham; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; son, Terry D. Miller (killed in action, Vietnam); daughter-in-law, Maria Lynn Miller; siblings, Marvin (Ardelia) Haack, Alvin (Dorothy) Haack, Robert Lee Haack in infancy, and Betty (Kenneth) Wachtel; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard Miller, Glen Miller, Harold Hartman, and Ruby (Harold) Giesler.
