Dies after surgery

Funeral services were scheduled at 3 p.m. Wednesday for Davis D. Hurt, Winona businessman and civic leader, who died Monday at St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He had undergone open heart surgery last Thursday.

Mr. Hurt, 53, had operated the Smart Shop with his wife, Evelyn, for many years.

Active in civic and community affairs, he was a former member of the Winona board of aldermen, and had been a member and officer of the Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Winona Masonic Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Last rites were planned at First Baptist Church, Rev. Kermit McGregor officiating, and Rev. David Pratt and William Shaw assisting. Burial was to be in Winona Gardens of Memory, with Oliver Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hurt is survived by a son, Douglas Hurt, Jackson; two daughters, Mrs. Glenda Ferguson, New Orleans, and Mrs. Wanda Warren, Dallas, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Ernest Childs Louisville; a brother, Horace Hurt, Chicago, Illinois; and three grandchildren.
