Joseph “Jack” Gibson, 96, of Chester, formerly of New Cumberland, WV, passed away Monday, July 20, 2020 at the Stone Pear Pavilion in Chester, WV. He was born January 10, 1924, in New Cumberland, a son of the late John W. and Ada C. Herron Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his wife Marguerite V. Anderson Gibson.

With 37 years of service, Jack retired from the former Weirton Steel Corporation, where he worked as a pipefitter. He was a member of the WSX 25-Year Club and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3506. After his retirement, he found a love for farming and eventually had over 100 head of Hereford cattle. In August of 1984, Jack was awarded the Top Farmer award from the West Virginia Farmer Contest.

Jack was a World War II and Korean War Army Veteran, having served in the European Theater and Korea. When he was discharged in 1951, he had the rank of Master Sergeant.

Jack is survived by a large, extended family.

Funeral services will be celebrated 10am Wednesday at the Union Cemetery, New Manchester, WV, with Military Services being conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Chester VFW Honor Guard.
