Vastine Edward Ahlrich

Vastine Edward Ahlrich, 78, of Winona, died Tuesday, April 13, at the Tyler Holmes Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Warrenton, Texas and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dietrich Ahlrich. He had served as a Soil Conservationist for the U. S. Department of Agriculture for 39 years before retiring. He was a member of the Moore Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Graham Ahlrich of Winona, one daughter, Martha Metts of Bradenton. FL, one son, Vastine Charles "Pinky" Ahlrich of Vicksburg, two sisters, Nettie Pfluger of Bishop, Tx., Lenona Stern of Taylor. Tx., one brother, Wilburn Ahlrich of Robstown, Tx.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the Moore Memorial Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15 with the Rev. A.G. Clark and and Rev. Jimmy Metts officiating. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Guy Oliver, Kenneth Ahlrich, Jed Metts, Paul Ahlrich, Rayburn Martin, Randy Ahlrich, Scott Hull, D.C. Hull and Gene Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were L. H. Flurry, Grady Dacus, David Brower, Cecil Barnett, Kenneth King, Dr. David Meadows, C. E. Austin, Joe Applewhite, Cecil Simpson, Herschel Gray, Spencer Wasson, Jack Groce, Kermith Wright and Alvin Black.

Oliver Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
