Lula Mae Barnett, age 97, passed away to her heavenly home on July 19, 2020. She was born on October 2, 1922 to J.H McMeekin and Florence (McManus) McMeekin in Kerens, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.C. “Cotton” Barnett.
Lula kept children in her home for 30 years. She kept many children in the Athens area, caring for them and loving them as her own. She was lovingly known to the children as “Momma Net”. Lula was a faithful member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church, where she served in many areas. She loved to travel and go camping with her family. Her family was her pride and joy and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Hernandez and husband Robert; her son, Curtis Barnett and wife Michelle; grandchildren, Jennifer Hernandez, Scott Hernandez and wife Amber; one great grandchild, Hannah Hernandez; her sister, Dorothy Skiles; numerous nieces and nephews.
Come and go visitation will be held from 12:00-5:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 3:00-5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel. Burial to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
