He was a banker and a major proponent of the establishment of what is now the University of Central Florida. He enlisted the help of the publisher of the Orlando Sentinel and former State Senate President William Shands to obtain legislative approval. As the president of what became Sun Trust, he was also an important figure in routing interstate 4 through Orlando, the secret acquisition of agricultural land which was turned in Walt Disney World and bringing the Martin Company missile plant to the area. Married to Grace Franklin.

His mother was Catherine Elizabeth Woltz. She died 1973 in Pinellas County, Florida - nickname Katie Belle.
