The gates of Heaven opened and summoned a solider; Ruby Lee
Nelson went home to be with her Savior on July 7, 2020. Ruby was born
August 10, 1935 in Shubuta, Mississippi to Bill and Ester Hawkins who
preceded her in death.
Ruby came to Jackson, Michigan in 1971 and became a faithful, dedicated
member and worker at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Ruby served
on the Usher Board, Circle #1 and as a Kitchen worker during her years
of committed service. She loved helping Rev. Amos Polk Williams, Pastor
(deceased), whenever asked or if she saw there was a need, she was always
willing to serve. Ruby’s favorite scripture was Psalms 37.
Ruby worked for 32 years at Allegiance Health Care as a Housekeeper
Technician. She was also employed for 33 years with Michigan Maintenance
as a Janitor. Ruby was dedicated to her profession and to her family she was
a worker at heart and not afraid of hard work.
Ruby was preceded by her parents, Bill and Ester Hawkins; sisters, Ruby
Dean Rouse of Picayune, Mississippi; Aralean Deloris Hawkins Cesar
Porter and brother; Roger L. Nelson of Cincinnati, Ohio.
She leaves to cherish her memory her godson; Aaron Patterson of
Jacksonville, Florida, one sister; Claudette Drummer-Stepp (Phillip) of
Indianapolis, Indiana, three brothers; Willie Robert Hawkins Jr. (Joann)
of Chicago, Illinois, Charles Anthony Hawkins (Frances) of New Orleans,
Louisiana and Elijah Drummer of Indianapolis, Indiana, cousins; Sara
Hubbard of Battle Creek, Michigan, Sadie Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio,
Marshall and Judith M. Harris of Memphis, Tennessee, and Alice Lewis, of
Jackson, Michigan and sister in law; Jacquelyn Nelson-Clark (Michael) of
Casa Grande, Arizona and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ruby will be truly missed.
