Edward Patrick Brooks was born on June 14, 1936 in Boston, MA to Forden Smythe & Margaret (Giblin) Brooks. Ed was a first generation American, as his dad was from Canada and his mom from Ireland. He passed away on July 5, 2020, in Plano, Texas.
Ed grew up in Boston until joining the Air Force in September 1954, where he served four years and then worked for the railroad until joining the US Navy in 1964. He was stationed on the west coast and spent time underway in the Pacific. Ed was proud of training generations of new Sailors, and he retired honorably from the Navy in 1980 having achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
Ed moved to Antlers, OK in 1982. In 1985 he went to work at the post office as a substitute rural carrier and worked there until retiring in 1998.
After retiring he volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary, the Historical Society, Wildlife Museum, Food Bank, and St Agnes Catholic Church where he was an active member.
Ed and Joyce were married in Hot Springs, AR on February 21, 1995. They were always together, whether they were at the grocery store, volunteering, travelling, or taking care of all of life’s tasks, big and small. They enjoyed spending time with each other and with their family. They traveled many miles to attend virtually every ballgame, performance, awards ceremony, military achievement, and other special event for their grandkids. After the grandkids were older they crisscrossed the map to visit them wherever they happened to be, from Washington State to Europe. Lessons and tales from Ed’s storied life have been shared far and wide. The high standards he lived by as a young man and training recruits in the Navy certainly informed the way he helped raise his grandchildren and serve his community.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bobby, sisters-in-law Joann Dewberry and Martha Brooks, and son-in-law Lowell Burgess Jr.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, brother Jack Brooks and wife Carol, step-daughter Lawanda Anderson and husband Kelley, step-daughter Karen Burgess, Grandchildren Jennifer Owens and spouse Matt, Major Allen Janoe and spouse Andrea, Major Wayne Janoe and spouse Julian, Josh Burgess and spouse Kylee, and Mary Nelson and spouse Bailey, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Pallbearers will include: Major Allen Janoe, Major Wayne Janoe, Josh Burgess, Bailey Nelson, John Brooks, and Matt Owens. Honorary pallbearer includes: Cody Janoe.

Funeral Services will be held at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Darwin Cemetery.
