Funeral services for Julia Catherine Pope, 92, Cyril, was held Monday, December 1, 2003, in the First Baptist Church, Cyril, with Rev. Charles Echols officiating.
Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery in Apache, under the direction of McRay's Cyril Funeral Home.
Catherine was born the daughter of Julius C. Melton and Zora Lucas Melton on September 4, 1912, in Ashville, NC. She died November 26, 2003, in Lawton.
She grew up in Antlers and graduated from Antlers High School. She married Dennis Rex Pope in 1935 after graduated high school. They lived in Antlers a short while before moving to the Cyril area. Catherine worked as an inspector for the Caddo County Board of Elections and was a World Book Representative. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a Sunday School secretary for many years. She devoted most of her time to working on the farm and caring for her family. She was also an avid coin and stamp collector.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dennis Rex Pope, son, Rex Wayne Pope, brothers, James & David Melton, and sisters, Ruth Melton Scyrkels & Jessie Melton.
Survivors include daughter, Julia Parker, Mentor, OH; grand-daughter and husband, Jamie & Ray Banary, Mentor, OH; great-grandsons, Matthew, Kyle & Drew, brother & wife, John Paul & Marjorie Melton; Powderly, TX; brother & wife, Samuel Emmett & Juanita Melton, Broken Arrow, sister, Esther Huber of Apache; and sister, Minnie Oliver, Apache.
