John Richard Shuman, 59, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997. Mr. Shuman was born May 2, 1938 in Polk County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served 21 years, and a real estate salesman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Lee Davis and W. Wilson Shuman. Survivors include; wife, Joyce P. Shuman of Rockmart; four sons, Richard Mike Shuman, Dennis Keith Shuman and John Christopher Shuman, Sr., all of Rockmart, and Steve Crain Shuman of Cedartown; brother, Bobby G. Shuman of Sumter, S.C.; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Parris and the Rev. Robert Rudeseal officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by Ft. McPhearson of Atlanta. Serving as pallbearers were: Gary Shuman, Jackie Berry, randy Berry, Tony Rudeseal, Davey Stephenson, Dale Stephenson. Donnie Stephenson, Gregg Parris, Johnny Parris, Stephen Ogle, and Jamie Ogle. The Gammage Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
