She was one of five children of Albert Hanna and Annie Hasseltine Garrett Hanna. She had three brothers, Elmer, Joe, and Creddie Hanna; and a sister, Minnie Hanna Fremin ("Yoakum Community: The First Hundred Years 1887-1987," Yoakum Sesquicentennial/Centennial Book Committee, page 238).

Survivors included two daughters, Helen Mellinger of Corpus Christi and Katherine Donnelly of San Antonio; and a brother, Elmer Hanna of Yoakum ("Corpus Christi Caller," May 16, 1984).
