Author. A novelist for most of his writing career, he wrote the popular works "The Lost Horizon" (1933) and "Goodbye Mr. Chips" (1934), both of which were turned into successful Hollywood motion pictures. He also wrote several motion picture screenplays, most notably 1942's "Mrs. Miniver".
