He grew up in Stamford, Texas and loved the wide-open spaces of west Texas. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corp and after his discharge he met and married the love of his life Dorotha Alexander on October 20, 1962.
He worked for many years as a salesman for US Electric Motors, J.T. Chapman Company, and retired from Campbell Grinding and Machine in 2003. In 1997, after 18 months of dialysis, he received a kidney transplant that allowed him 23 more years of life. Needing something to keep him busy, he started to work as a crossing guard at Rockbrook Elementary School where he worked another 12 years.
Fred was very much a people person and enjoyed the fellowship with his Tuesday morning coffee group at Jack-in-the-Box. He was a member of Lakeland Baptist Church for 38 years. It was his privilege to serve in the area of Sunday School as a Department Director and as a Chairman of Deacon on the Deacon Council.
Fred is survived by his wife, Dorotha, of 57 years, two daughters, Deborah and husband Bill Searcy, Susan and husband Joe Humphrey, and son John Wade. Grandchildren Jessica and husband Seth Nash, Brittany Fuller, Daniel and wife Kim Fuller, Cale Humphrey and Finn Humphrey, Brian and wife Christi Fuller. Great Grandchildren Haleigh Nash, Dylan Gardner, Levi Fuller and Brianna Fuller. Sister Maxie Cannon and many nieces and nephews.
