Gary Amon Barnes, 67, of Columbus passed away Tuesday evening, July 7th, 2020 at his home after a six-month illness.
He was born June 17th, 1953 in Columbus, the son of Joe and Marcella (Medlin) Barnes.

He attended school in Columbus and graduated from CUHS with the class of 1971. He attended Clarkes Business School in Topeka, becoming a court reporter and worked in Omaha, NE, retiring in 2007. He returned to Columbus and worked at Numerous odd jobs and made many friends.

In 1975 he married Janet Schell. They raised two children and later divorced.

Gary had a love for Corvettes and had six in his lifetime. While living in Nebraska he was an avid Cornhuskers fan who also loved model trains. He enjoyed the music of Australian rock band ACDC and liked to sing karaoke. He was a hard worker who enjoyed detailing cars and other activities. During his illness, he enjoyed watching many videos of cars and model trains. He enjoyed visits from many long-time friends in recent months.

He is survived by a son, Corey of Omaha, NE. A daughter, Ashley (Clint) Begnoche of Las Vegas, NV. Grandchildren, Rorric Barnes, Mila Begnoche and grandson Ezra Ford Begnoche is expected in September. A sister Brenda (David) Boyd, of Columbus. Many nieces and nephews. He is survived by special friend and companion Diane Schoenewald, as well as many friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marcella Barnes.
Gary has been entrusted to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home for cremation.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
