FUNERAL NOTICE

Died - At her home in Medora, Illinois, Wednesday night August 31, 1898. Nancy Wood Tietsort was 92 years, 1 months and 27 days old. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Episcopal Church, Friday, September 2, at 10:00 o'clock a.m., Rev. J. E. Burk officiating. Interment in Shipman Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Nancy Wood was born in old Virginia, July 4, 1806. She removed with her parents to Dark county, Ohio when 12 years of age, where she lived until about 30 years old, when she accompanied an older married sister to Cass county, Michigan. She there met and formed the acquaintance of Peter Tietsort, and on March 25, 1835 they were married and settled on his father's farm where they resided until March, 1856. They then moved to Jersey county, Illinois and settled on their farm in the Paradise neighborhood, 6 miles east of Jerseyville. They remained on the farm 29 years, when the infirmities of old age caused them to move to Medora.

Her father, John Wood, was a soldier of the Revolution and participated in several of the hard-fought battles. She was one of ten children and she lived to see all of her family pass away. She experienced religion when quite young, and connected herself with the Methodist church, of which she remained a constant and consistent member until her death. Wherever she lived she was noted for her hospitality - a kind and generous neighbor - in sickness and distress she was always willing to lend a helping hand like a true Samaritan. No hungry stranger ever applied to her for sustenance in vain.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church on Friday at 10 o'clock a.m., and her remains were conveyed to Shipman and deposited by the side of her husband, Peter Tietsort, and also her sister Sara Swank, former wife of Michael Swank, who preceded her over 40 years ago.
