Peter Bryant, Sr. was born July 10, 1948, to Bessie Bryant in Baldwin, LA. He was raised by Glancy "Bub" and Rose Johnson from a very young age. He was member of Rock Island Baptist Church and a 1966 graduate of Lincoln High School in Port Arthur, TX. After graduation, he immediately enlisted into the United States Army, serving tours in Vietnam. In 1969 he relocated to Louisiana. He was united with the Golden Chain Baptist Church in Elton, LA under the leadership of Rev. Donald Burnette as Pastor. He was a devoted member and served as church custodian for many years. He was an employee of the Sheriff's Department, PPG Refinery and later Olin Chemical Company where he was the supervisor of Shipping and Receiving. He later reenlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for a tour and afterward returned to Port Arthur, TX, making it his home. He worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and the City of Port Arthur before retiring.
Peter was a fun loving person and always the life of the party who loved to dance and swing out. Peter was a man who was fun to be around, he was always making people laugh and have a good time. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved being outside, working in the yard, planting gardens, and enjoying the blessings of nature. He was a master chef that could and would cook anything your heart desired.
He leaves to cherish his love and memories his loving and devoted wife, Joann B. Bryant; five children, Dana I. Bryant (Alvin), Peter "P-Joe" Bryant, Jr. (Gretchen), Olevia Bryant-Gay (Justin), Dacia Bryant, and Cordell Jack; grandchildren, Adam, Sabrina, Jala, Maiya, Julyanna, Courtland, Makenzi, Reagan, Jacy, Peyton, Alaja, Bailey, Xavier, and Landon; great granddaughter, Callie; Godson, Gregory J. Phillips; seven children he loved as his own, LaKeisha, Yunnas, Malika, Wadiya, Mubaarak, Adiyba, and Husaan; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren he loved as his own and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and grandson, Jarvis.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2019 at Gabriel Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Procter Street, Port Arthur, TX with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery.
