Joseph Lee Carson, formerly of P.O. Box 1941 Morganton, NC was born April 11, 1943 in Thorpe, West Virginia and departed this life July 4, 2019 in Missoula, Montana where he was a resident. He was a son of the late Nathaniel Carson Sr. and Maetta Rutherford Carson. Both parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Carson was a veteran of the US Army. He was also a member of American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He worked as a correctional officer for 23 years and worked two years as a cook at Broughton Hospital in Morganton, NC and various other locations.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Forney Carson of the home; son, Joseph Lee Carson Jr. of Missoula, MT; daughter LaShonda Odum of Morganton; brother, Nathaniel Carson Jr. of Nebo; sisters, Hattie Rutherford of Morganton, Mary Tate of Nebo, and Anne Miller of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Tony Odum Jr. of Morganton, Danette Carson-Walters of Idaho Falls, ID, Samantha Carson of Lake Forest, CA, and Marikatherine Carson of Missoula, MT; 2 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Mr. Joseph Lee Carson will be held Sunday July 14, 2019 at St. John AME Church located at 7909 US-70 Nebo, NC at 3:00 p.m. Receiving of friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until 2:55 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Rutherford-Cuthbertson Family Cemetery.
