Born Monday, February 25, 1957 in Gary, Indiana, he was the son of the late Billie Joe Sims and the late Mary Ruth Jackson Nye. Mr. Sims was a self-employed carpenter.

He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Sims (Coy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Tonia Marie Sims of Jackson, Tennessee; one son, Jason Wayne Sims of Dyersburg, Tennessee; five brothers, Ronnie Sims (Cathy) of Newbern, Tennessee, Terry Sims of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Danny Sims of Sullivan, Indiana, Brian Pate (Ewa) of Newbern, Tennessee and Ricky Sims (Joann) of Friendship, Tennessee; four sisters, Mary Jane Pugh (John)of Portage, Indiana, Joyce Carter (Chris) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Daphne Pate (Kenny) of Yorkville, Tennessee and Kathy Cerny (Bruce) of Ocala, Florida; one half sisters, Kathy Sims of Portage, Indiana; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, with another great-grandchild to join the family in March, 2021 and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Nova Lee Pierce.
