Gerald Marvin "Gerry" Morgan, Sr., of Rosamond, California, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, California. He was born on Saturday, September 3, 1966 in Selma, Alabama to Otha L. and Geraldine Rudolph Morgan.

In November 1966, Gerald moved with his mother and father to Seaside, California where his father was in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Ord, California in Monterey County, California. They lived in the Amador Avenue Apartments in Seaside, California until his parents purchased a house in Seaside in the early 1970's. They sold the house in Seaside and purchased the house in Marina, California where his family still reside.

When Gerald was about three years old, his parents bought him a tricycle. He fell in love with that tricycle and learned to ride it very well. He rode it every day in front of his parents' apartment. The picture on this memorial of him on the tricycle show him dressed in his favorite sweater and sunglasses.

Gerald was a few days short of three years old when his brother Alvin was born on August 31, 1969. From that point on, Gerald became the best big brother any younger brother could ask for. Gerald loved his little brother and he was almost like another parent when it came to looking after him. When they crossed the street, Gerald held his brother's hand as he quickly led him across the street to safety. When they were in stores, Gerald did not let go of his little brother's hand. He called his brother, Alvie, and when he wanted to get his attention, he would say his name three or four times very quickly, "Alvie, Alvie, Alvie." That was his patented way of getting his brother's attention.

Gerald accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church in Seaside, California. He attended school in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District in Monterey County, California and he was a 1985 graduate of Seaside High School in Seaside, California.

Gerald was a quiet, easy going child and also as an adult. When his family went to amusement parks, like Disneyland and Great America, Gerald was always attracted to the scariest rides. His father was always stuck with the task of going with him on the scary roller coaster rides at several amusement parks they visited. Gerald also had an attraction for BMX bicycles and he learned to ride them very well. He entered a competition once in the Monterey, California area and did very well for a beginner. After that first competition, he lost interest in competing.

Gerald was a hard worker from a young age. At 14 years old, he had a paper route that he did before going to school in the morning. He got up early in the morning on his own, he didn't have to be awakened by his parents. He rolled the newspapers and put rubber bands on them, loaded them on his bicycle, went and threw the papers and returned home sometimes before his parents woke up. Gerald had good work ethics at a young age.

Gerald loved music from a little boy. When he was in his teens, he taught himself to operate two turntables when playing music. He later bought some more DJ equipment and began doing DJ jobs in his spare time. As he grew older, Gerald began to get very good at operating the turntables and people started to notice it. They began hiring him to play at birthday parties, weddings and other events. When he played events, people were amazed at how he operated the turntables. One weekend, Gerald was hired to do a wedding reception in Seaside, California at the Veterans Club on the corner of Fremont Boulevard and Ord Grove Avenue. Yours truly, his father went along to helped him carry in and set up his equipment. Gerald set up his equipment on a stage at the club. When Gerald played the Electric Slide song, people lined up and started dancing. One of the ladies dancing the electric slide invited Gerald to join them. He jumped off the stage and began dancing the electric slide with the people. Yours truly, his father was amazed because he didn't know Gerald could dance like that. His father didn't even know how to do the electric slide, so he sat, watched and enjoyed seeing Gerald dance with the wedding guests.

After high school, Gerald worked at McDonald's in Monterey, California, Bobby Rogers Restaurant in Seaside, California, K-Mart in Seaside, California and Grand Auto Supply in Seaside, California. He began working at Grand Auto Supply in Seaside, California in the late 1980's. In 1991, he moved to San Jose, California and transferred to another Grand Auto store in Saratoga, near San Jose, California. Gerald continued to work at the Grand Auto Supply stores until the store changed its name to Kragens and Kragens later became O'Reilly's.

In 2006, Gerald transferred again to O'Reilly's in Southern California in the Lancaster area of Los Angeles County. During his years at O'Reilly's, Kragens and Grand Auto Supply, Gerald learned and developed an excellent knowledge of all auto parts and equipment needed for vehicles. He could remember the names and numbers of almost all vehicle parts, lights, front and rear. Gerald was so nice to people that he sometimes got in trouble at work for helping people install lights and car batteries in their vehicles in the store parking lot. Gerald left O'Reilly's in 2019 to work at Northrop Grumman, he was there for a year when he got sick.
