Patricia (Pat) A. Sylvester of Kirkville, New York, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 11th, 2020. She was 86 years old. With the same grace she lived her life, she approached death with strength and repose saying only; “This old body is just wearing out.”

Born in Rochester, New York, Pat lived most of her life in the Syracuse area. Eventually settling in Kirkville where she resided for the last forty-five years. She married and raised five children. Always taking interest in each one with special attention. She then embarked on a career in childcare. She worked for Happy Day Care in Fremont and Manlius, teaching nursery school and caring for countless children. Showing love for the children she cared for was her passion.

Always a lover of travel, Pat traveled to Ireland to visit her ancestral home, then onto England and Scotland. She fulfilled a dream of visiting Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top Farm in Sawrey, England where “The Tale of Peter Rabbit,” among other children’s books were written. Another favorite was a trip to Jonesborough, TN to attend the National Storytelling Festival held there and of course, a trip to Graceland to pay homage to Elvis.

A lover of books and learning, Pat was an avid reader. She was interested in anything and everything and was learned in so many areas. In conversation, it often surprised others how broad her knowledge was.

Pat was predeceased by her husband of 31 years Peter L. Sylvester. She is survived by her children, Susan Bliss (Ed), Terry Knaflewski (Ron), Peter Sylvester, Jr. (Sandra), John Sylvester and Nancy Conrad.; Additionally, Pat had eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

In recent years Pat began to slow down a bit but never lost her desire to get out and about. It was with the care that was provided to her by her daughters, Susan Bliss and Nancy Conrad that made this possible. They also made possible her wish to remain at home.

Services and burial will be private. Delaney Greabell Adydan Funeral Home, East Syracuse has care of arrangements.
