Paul G. Payne, 86, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, passed away at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, July 12, 2020, at the Haven.

Born Oct. 19, 1933, in Westover, MD, he was a son to the late A. Roy Payne and Gladys Rebecca (Roth) Payne. His spouse, Mary Ann (Hershberger) Payne, whom he married April 15, 1955, survives and resides at Valley View Terrace, Belleville.

He is also survived by: children, Diane Shetler and husband, Reuben, of Belleville, Elizabeth Adamic and Heath, of Champaign, Illi., Pamela McLachlin and Neal, of Piedmont, SD, Paul T. Payne and wife, Pamela, of Hicksville, Ohio, and Twila Martin and husband, John, of Belleville; grandchildren, Willow Shetler, Kiersten Payne, Lauren Payne, Emma Payne, Annemarie Martin, Nikolas Fisher, Chasity Dunbar and Loraina Lutz; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Hilda Yoder, Virginia Townsend and husband, George, Dorothy Myers and husband, Larry, Richard Payne and Susan.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Harriett Townsend and two brothers, Roy Phillip Payne and James Payne.

Paul retired in 2003 as a general contractor and cabinet maker in the Mount Union area. He was a former very active member of the Otelia Mennonite Church in Mount Union, where he served as a board member and trustee. He also served as a Sunday school teacher for 65 years. Upon he and his wife's relocation to Belleville, he became an active member of the Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church. His love was serving the Lord Jesus Christ.

He enjoyed reading, studying scripture, furniture repair and woodworking. He was a faithful blood donor giving 16 quarts of blood to the Red Cross over his lifetime.

His memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Locust Grove Mennonite Church with Pastor Steve Munger officiating. Paul's family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020 at Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, Belleville and again from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Otelia Mennonite Church in Mt. Union. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Otelia Mennonite Cemetery.
