Earl Griffen Flippen

Earl Griffen Flippen, 60, of Greenwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1988, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Flippen was born in McCarley. He had been a resident of Greenwood for the past 25 years, and a resident of Cleveland, before that. He was a Methodist. Mr. Flippen was an army veteran of the Korean War, and a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he received a degree in electrical engineering. He had been employed for 40 years by the Delta Electric Power Association in Greenwood, where he worked as an electrical engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Flippen of Greenwood; a daughter, Mrs. Judy Bailey of Greenwood; two sons, Wesley Flippen of Clarkville, Tenn., and Stacy Flippen of Clarksdale; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Anglen of Tupelo, and Mrs. Elizabeth Armstrong of Morton, Miss.; one brother, Homer Flippen of San Francisco; and one grandson.
Pallbearers include Floyd Melton, Jr., Howard Evans, Richard Anglin, John Tuttle, Charles Buford, Jimmy Chesteen.

There will be a visitation from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Wilson & Knight.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

She was married in Carroll County on December 21,1919 to Homer Wesley Flippen, born December 3, 1894 in Providence, Wilson County, Tennessee and died May 18,1977 in Grenada, Grenada County, Mississippi. Both were buried at Winona,Montgomery County, Mississippi.
