Great-Great-Great-Grandfather

He was the son of Friend Gibbs and Lucinda Wetmore Gibbs.
Attorney and Sheriff of Hardin County. He served from 1867 to 1871 as Sheriff. He was a member of the Republican Party. Mr. Gibbs was known to be active in anti-slavery and Underground Railroad activities. In 1853 and 1855 he was a Justice of the Peace in Salem Township, Henry County, Iowa. His office in Salem was in the Henderson Lewelling house, which was built as a station on the Underground Railroad. The home even had trap doors leading to three secret rooms.
