In 1903 as a 60-year-old widow, she came to the Americas with a large group including four of her children, including her daughter Katharina (Fueller) Sackmann and 8 of Katharina's children, ages 2 to 15. They came through Canada into North Dakota on the railroad. Family notes say that an additional child was born to Katharina on the train traveling through Alberta, Canada enroute to North Dakota.
Louisa is buried in Peace Lutheran Cemetery near Turtle Lake, North Dakota. She shares a tombstone with her grandson Jacob Sackmann Jr. (Memorial # 21284027) Jacob died 6 months after Louisa in Oct 1918 at age 22. He was a private in the U.S. Army Infantry who died of pneumonia during World War I. May they both rest in peace.
