ENFIELD - A Trumansburg woman was killed early Sunday in a one-vehicle accident on Trumbulls Corner Road.
Crystal Walker, 21, of 4300 W. Seneca Road was pronounced dead by emergency workers at about 2:10 a.m. Walker, the rear-seat passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck, had been partially ejected from the vehicle.
According to Tompkins County sheriff's deputies, the driver, 24-year-old William G. McIlroy of 44 Deer Run Road in Newfield, was intoxicated when they arrived on the scene. McIlroy allegedly told deputies he had swerved to avoid a deer, the vehicle rotated counterclockwise, rolled over and came to a stop on the east shoulder of the roadway.
"Until past daylight, probably 6 a.m., we were out there investigating the incident," said Capt. Mark Dresser of the sheriff's office. "All the red paint on the road is from our scene investigators."
McIlroy was transported by Bangs Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center where at 2 p.m. Sunday he was listed in stable condition. The front-seat passenger, 22-year-old Eric Walker, of 2250 Mecklenburg Road in Ithaca, was also transported by Bangs Ambulance to CMC where he was treated and released.
Deputies said McIlroy was charged with driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to be processed upon his release from CMC. Dresser said the sheriff's office has been in contact with Tompkins County district attorney George Dentes about the incident...
