Bruce Brovold, 78 of Gully, Minnesota, passed away on July 7, 2020 at the Essentia Hospital in Fosston, MN. He was born on May 15, 1942 to parents Elmer and Millie (Fossum) Brovold at the Bagley hospital.

He grew up on the family farm north of Gully in Johnson township with one younger sister, Brenda. Bruce was a farmer at heart and worked alongside his father from the time he was very young. He was great at tackling equipment problems and was often found under a tractor with parts scattered around repairing something. Those abilities and his love of farming also equipped him to be an active member and employee of the Gully Coop, working at both the gas station and later at the fertilizer plant.

On October 5, 1963, Bruce married his childhood sweetheart, Sonja Thoreson. Together they had children, Stacy and Scott. Bruce continued working with his father raising beef cattle, hay and other farm crops. Together the family enjoyed many trips to Pine Lake fishing, waterskiing in the evenings and short trips camping with friends.

After Sonja’s death in March 1988, Bruce married Mary (Stenberg) Brovold on July 17, 1994. Bruce was welcomed into Mary’s family by her daughter Ginger, and Mary’s parents Harry and Evelyn Stenberg and siblings. Together they worked to build a new home south of Gully and enjoyed going on trips and family gatherings. Bruce and Mary would have been celebrating their 26th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks.

Bruce is survived by his wife Mary; children: Stacy (Gary) Nordlund, and Scott (Lisa) Brovold; step-daughter, Ginger, (Christian) Von Niederhausern; grandchildren: Nathan (Charis) Nordlund, Nolan (Alexandria) Nordlund, Angel Brovold (Daniel Beardmore), Ann (Orrie) Milberger, Will Brovold, and Lukas Volstad; five great grandchildren; sister, Brenda (David) Odegaard; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Sonja.

Bruce will be buried at the Lund Lutheran Cemetery in Gully
