Ethel Carol (Marks) Russell was born September 20, 1951 in Vulcan, Alberta, Canada to Jack and Julia (Bestul) Marks, the fifth of six children. She went to live with her Heavenly Father Friday July 3, 2020 at her home in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Carol lived in Canada on her family’s farm until she was 13 years old. In 1964 her family moved to Fontana, California where she graduated in 1970 from Fontana High School. She returned to Canada to take care of her father a few years later. In 1980 her first and only son, John Thomas Russell was born. Shortly after, she moved to Oklahoma to be near her brother Adrian Marks. She pursued her nursing degree at Connors State College, receiving her license as a Registered Nurse in 1991 and continued her career as a nurse as long as she was able. She met the love of her life, Roger Phillips, whom she married on June 6, 2002.
Carol was a devoted mother who loved her son dearly. She was a storyteller who loved sharing memories and a positive and kind woman with a great sense of humor, even in times of trouble. Her love for people, especially children, drew her to the nursing field. Her hobbies included fishing, reading, gardening and watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Carol was loved very much and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Julia; her son John Thomas, one brother Johnny; two sisters Andrea and Sharon; two nephews Tracy and Brook, one niece LouAnn and one great nephew Shelby.
She is survived by her husband of the home, Roger; two bonus sons Jay Phillips and wife Loxanne and Dustin Phillips and wife Lacy; two brothers Jimmy Marks and wife Marcia and Adrian Marks Sr. and wife Julia; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
