Stanislaw Joseph Podulke aka Podulka (Stanley) a professional blacksmith. born on the 8th of May, 1888 in Grabownica Starzeńska,Poland; to father Jendrich Joseph Podulke and mother Kataryna (formerly Pilszak.) He had one brother named Pjotr. He grew up in south east Poland, close to the Ukraine border from a village called Grabownica. His brother Pjotr's descendants still live there and his parents are in the cemetery. He walked from southeast Poland to Hamburg Germany where he learned blacksmithing. That's where the "a"on the end of Podulka became an "e" due to german phonetics. When he emmigrated his passport was issued by austro-hungary. Poland has had pretty fluid borders over centuries; its possible the family was subject to being drafted by that empire too.

He married Olga Marie Bergne; and together they had five children: Bernadine Helena, Bernard Michael, Sophia, Michael Francis, and Ambrose Walter, in Mazeppa as the first Podulke family in the world.

Bernie was the oldest of five children. Some of her earliest memories were of her blacksmith dad coming home from work and sitting down in a big rocker, with all of the children on his lap, singing songs to his little ones.

Stanislaw died January 20, 1926; from improper ventilation in his blacksmith shop. leaving his wife with their three young children (that survived to adulthood). She struggled to take care of her family during the crisis in 1929. The 1930 Census lists Olga Marie as age 33 and children Bernadine (age 9) Michael (age 7) and Ambrose (age 6) at the household in Mazeppa, Minnesota that was lost due to the actions of the banker who stole her monthly payments and had fled to Canada; taking all the savings from the village people, and the catholic church didnt pay back a loan that Stanislaw had loaned them.
