A funeral service for Ernie Eugene Cole, age 83, of Enid, Oklahoma, formerly of Memphis, TN, will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home Chapel in Memphis, TN, with Rev. Grady Camp officiating. Burial will be in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery in Memphis. Viewing will be Saturday 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. He was born to John Russell and Charlie (Bright) Cole on February 2, 1924, in Cardwell, MO, and died Friday, April 6, 2007, at his home in Enid. Ernie grew up in Trenton, TN, and married Marie Kate Robinson on June 13, 1944 in Riverside, CA. They made their home in Memphis, TN. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, fighting in the Battles of Midway and Guadalcanal. He retired from the Navy as Chief. He then worked twenty-five years for W.R. Grace Chemical as an operator, retiring in 1986. They moved to Enid in 2005, to be near their son. Ernie enjoyed coin collecting, gardening, genealogy and reading. He is survived by his wife, Marie of the home; one son, John Russell Cole and wife Patricia Ann (Craig) Cole, of Enid, formerly of Memphis; and two grandchildren, Sarah and David Cole. Ernie was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to O.M.R.F. – Cancer Division.
