KOREAN WAR VETERAN WIDOW

Genevieve Louise Ellis, 82, passed away peacefully with her family close to her in Gig Harbor, Washington on June 23, 2020.

She was intelligent, intuitive, empathetic, loving, and inventive, especially at solving crossword puzzles. She is deeply loved and will be missed every day by her family and friends.

Genevieve was born in Hillsboro, Oregon on March 13, 1938 to Dr. Watt Henry and Iola Josephine (Cox) Piercy.

She lived next door to her grandparents, Dr. J.O. and Jesse Genevieve Robb, to whom she was very close.
She would spend time with her grandmother while her grandfather, Dr. Robb guided preparations in the first hospital in the small town of Hillsboro, where he resided as leading physician.

In 1954 Genevieve’s father as well as her uncle became charter members on the Tuality Community Hospital Board by putting up their own money into preserving the non-profit hospital.

Genevieve attended the University of Oregon after graduating from Hillsboro High School.

She soon met Larry Gene Ellis and they married on March 23, 196, in Hillsboro, Oregon. She supported them both by working in the banking industry while he earned a degree at CalPoly.

She cherished her competence with numbers, but ultimately had to put that on hold, as they would eventually have four children; Laurie, Robert, Carol, and Charles.

She spent a substantial amount of time creating a close family life. She was best known for her ability to master new skills and move on from one to the next. Upholstery, re-flooring, watercolor, redecorating, sewing, quilting, gardening…and of course, she manifested a labor of love in her best skill of all in gathering her family every night while preparing delicious meals.

Genevieve eventually moved onto her next step in life and embraced her aptitude for numbers. She prepared taxes for H&R Block, and then joined forces with her daughter Laurie at Ellis Accounting until proudly working until she was age 81.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Larry; parents Dr. Watt and Iola .

Survived by her siblings; Jean, Jack and Robert; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert (Melissa), and Charles; two daughters and one son-in-law, Laurie and Carol (Greg); four grandchildren, Madison, Porter, Alex, and Ian. She also leaves behind several family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

She will eventually be laid to rest alongside her husband Larry, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
