Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips Passes Away at Home of Her Daughter in Butte
Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, until a short time ago a resident of this city, died last Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William A. Hinkley of Butte, at the age of 98 years and 7 months. Her death was due to her increasing years. She had just recently returned from a visit to a son in California and upon her arrival in Butte complained of not feeling well and her condition became more serious from day to day until the end came. Deceased was born in North Carolina in 1816 living in Illinois and Missouri until twelve years ago when she moved to Dillon. Her old age has been one of extreme pleasure to her ____ having been to enjoy the full control of her mental facilities with few days of the time when she answered the call of death. She is a member of a large family all of home have lived to good ripe old age, she have had a sister who lived to see her hundred and second birthday. The remains were brought to Dillon last Sunday evening and funeral services were held last Monday from the home of her son, Judge L.P. Phillips on East Helena Street. Rev. E. V. Ostrander conducting the service. The remains were laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery. The pall bearers were: G.T. Paul, George Dart, Mar __ Ennis, Rube Tritt, John Baker, Hugh McCaleb and W.T. Scully. Four sons and one daughter survive. They are John Phillips of Long Beach, CA, James Phillips and L.Phillips of Dillon, Thomas Phillips, Orick, MO, and Mrs. William A. Hinkley of Butte. Thirty grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren survive.
