Otis Watson Smith, 79, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 2020 at his home.
Otis was born on June 11, 1941 in Rockingham County to the late William Mason and Bartha Ann Southard Smith. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Old Dominion Freight Lines with 14 years of service. Otis was also a truck driver for Pilot Freight Carriers from the age of 18 until they closed. He liked to raise tobacco and fish, Otis loved the Atlanta Braves and Duke Basketball.
In addition to his parents, Otis was preceded in death by his step daughter, Tina Annette Wall; 2 brothers, Walter Mason "Pete" Smith and William "Shorty" Floyd Smith; and 2 sisters, Mary Katherine Smith and Lillie Mae Smith.
Otis is survived by his loving wife, Roslyn Purgason Smith; 4 children, Wayne Smith (Cathy), Betty Sheppard (Roy), Tammy Smith, and Cathy Smith; 3 step children, Chris Linville (Renee), Todd Linville, and April Hill (PW); 5 grandchildren, Chris Smith (fiance Samra Ward), Marc Cook (Courtney), Mitchell Cook (Stephanie), Jamie Snavely (Daniel), and Shannon Dean (Paul); 9step grandchildren, Mason Linville, Kevin Linville, Todd Linville, Derek Linville (Britney), David Wall (Melanie), Samantha Lee (Phillip), Santana Ford, Montana Ford, and Jenny McKay (Noah); 10 great grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Pauline S. Hand and Betty S. Anthony; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a 2:00 pm graveside service held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown with Pastor Herb Mabe officiating. Funeral Home pandemic guidelines apply.
