Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Henninger-Allen Chapel for Mrs. Francis Brawner, 78, who died rather unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon in a local hospital. Dr. Stephen J. Pallbearers were Earl Weibel, Charles Kimes, L.C. Goodgion, Jere G Crowley, and D. Bruce Selby.

Many workers now engaged in trying to raise funds for the Enid Community Chest were saddened Wednesday when they learned of the death of Mrs. Brawner who resided at 512 South Buchanan. She had been failing in health for the past several months, but had been taken to the hospital for treatment only Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Brawner came to Enid from Wichita, Kansas and attended Phillips University for two years. Her husband died in 1908 leaving her with two small children. She had taught school near Hunnewell, Kansas, when she was only 17 years old. She re-entered the classroom following her study at Phillips. She was a native of Indiana.
In Enid she was one of the first 15 members of University Place Christian Church and was Superintendent of the primary Sunday school Department for many years. She was one of the most ardent church workers in Enid.
Mrs. Brawner was a life-long member of the Enid Associated Charities and served for some years as its Secretary. This Organization was the forerunner of the Community Chest, the organization now engaged in a campaign to raise funds to carry on the work of six Red Feather agencies. She was superintendent of the organization for 13 years and was identified with social work in Enid for decades. She was also a member of the Coterie club.
She was the mother of two widely known Enid residents, Mrs. Bessie Wadlow, associated with the federal internal revenue bureau in Enid and Gil Brawner manager of the C.R. Anthony store in Enid. She also leaves two grandchildren.
The Grandchildren are Martha Frances Brawner and Gil Brawner Jr. Enid – Enid Daily news.
