Ruth A. Hogan, 93, of Canisteo Street, passed away early Friday evening (June 26, 2020) at St. James Hospital in Hornell.

Born in Hornell on April 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaritte (Huff) Alger. On October 11, 1948 she was married at the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell to Thomas A. Hogan, who predeceased her on March 5, 2001, after 53 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Corey Hogan; two brothers, Raymond (Elizabeth) Alger and Jack Alger, and her sister-in-law, Patricia Alger.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Ruth was a graduate of Hornell High School class of 1945 and was employed by the former New York Telephone Co. in Hornell for 35 years and retired in 1980 as a Service Assistant.

She was a communicant of the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell and most recently was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. Ruth was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Association of Telephone Retirees, Inc., the Hornell High School Alumni Association and the St. Jude League.

Her loving family includes her three sons, Thomas A. (Karen) Hogan, Jr., Martin (Candace) Hogan and Raymond Hogan all of Hornell; five grandchildren, Mathew (Bonnie Brennessel) Hogan, Erin Dwyer, Tracie Crowe, Michael Hogan and Allison (James) Hurton; two great-grandchildren, Kellen Crowe and Sydney Crowe; one brother, Richard Alger of Hornell; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., Hornell is honored to serve the family of Ruth A. Hogan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at St. Ann’s Church, Hornell at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Bath National Cemetery.
